What is AIYS?

There are innumerable ways in which AI is changing our lives – from improving the way medical science treats diseases to creating stronger and smarter buildings to driverless cars.

 

The AI Bootcamp for Young Scholars is a fortnight-long hands-on internship designed for high school students in Grades 8 through 12. It is an open academic internship with participants from multiple countries across Asia.

 

It will enable you to discover how you can use the power of AI in any discipline and field of study and how machine learning and artificial intelligence can make peoples’ lives better. Through our Lab experience you will put your new skills to practical hands-on learning.

Senior Lecturer

Dr. LEK Hsiang Hui is a Lecturer at the Department of Information Systems and Analytics at National University of Singapore (NUS). He graduated with Bachelor of Computing (Honours) in Computer Engineering and PhD in Information Systems from National University of Singapore.

 

He currently teaches undergraduate courses in Enterprise Systems Design and Development courses. He also conducts executive training in Healthcare Analytics at the Centre of Health Informatics (CHI).

 

He has won the University level Annual Teaching Excellence Award for AY 2015/16, AY 2016/17, AY 2017/18, and placed on ATEA honor roll for AY2018/19. In addition, he has also won the Faculty Teaching Excellence Award (FTEA) for AY2014/15, AY2015/16, AY2016/17, and placed on FTEA honor roll for AY2017/18.

 

He currently serves as one of the department's curriculum committee members which look into the curriculum planning. He is also one of the faculty advisors for the NUS BiZiT Society, a student-initiated society that aims to promote visibility for the business IT industry.

Mr. Shantanu Pandey is a technology consultant who has worked on apps, AI engines and portals for clients like TaxiForSure, OneIndia, VahRehVah, CultureMachine, TableConnection, Canara Bank, HotWatch and more, with mix and match of tech. He has trained at NUS, Singapore for last 3 years on AI, Machine Learning and IoT.

His passion for programming started at the age of 6 with C++ in the hope of developing games, and the awe of science has pushed him since then. After his stint with Microsoft, he got excited about the start-up ecosystem and eventually started his own company. He has also been associated with NUS and corporate gurukul and trained more than 10,000 students worldwide.

No, our course is specially designed to ensure that students from all streams and areas of study can easily understand the concepts taught at this bootcamp.

Is the programme open to students from any school?

Yes, students studying the ICSE, CBSE, IB MYP, IB DP, IGCSE curriculum can apply for the programme. Students can be of any nationality, ethnicity and belong to any country!

Is accommodation provided whilst I am taking part in A.I. Bootcamp?

This is a fully-residential program. All students and visiting faculty will stay at the NUS dormitories in a single room, non-AC accommodation. NUS has a cafeteria which serves food from 16 countries: vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are available.

I wanted to enquire about the cost incurred in this programme. Kindly provide me the details for cost expenditure of this programme.

What are the requirements to earn all the programme completion documents?

Issuance of all certificates and the LoE will be at Corporate Gurukul’s discretion subject to:

  1. the participant’s performance
  2. completion of assignments and
  3. 90% attendance during the academic internship

When will I get the entitled documents?

The certificates will be awarded during the Valedictory Ceremony at the end of the programme.

The LOE(s) will be posted to your respective institutes 60 days post the programme completion.

Where are the hands-on sessions conducted?

The hands-on sessions are conducted in the Lecture Theatre/Seminar Rooms. You will not visit any laboratories for the same unless requested by the professor(s).

Do I need my own laptop for the academic internship?

Laptop with the specifications mentioned in ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP PREREQUISITES is MANDATORY for all participants.

Do we visit HPE office for the HPE Education part of the curriculum?

No. The entire academic internship is delivered at NUS, Singapore.

Are we divided into groups for projects and assignments?

Yes, you will be assigned teams for project work and assignments. These teams typically consist of 4-5 members.

Can we choose our team members?

No, the team members are assigned by Corporate Gurukul team in consultation with the professor(s). They are created keeping in mind that the prerequisite readiness and a proper mix of students from various institutions. Any request for choice of team member will not be entertained.

How do we submit the projects/assignments?

All assignments and projects will be submitted on the Learning Management System, Acadly.

Are assignments given daily? By when do we submit them?

Assignments will be given daily and need to be submitted as per specified deadline. You may be required to work on the assignments in teams or individually as per the nature of assignment.

How many projects do we do during the programme?

You are required to complete one project during the duration of the programme. This will be done in teams.

When does the project presentation happen?

The project presentations will be conducted post the HPE and NUS sessions.

Are both HPE and NUS sessions graded?

Yes, both HPE and NUS sessions will be graded.

When are the MCQ sessions conducted?

The MCQ Quiz will be conducted every day during the afternoon session.

What if I get delayed in submissions?

Any late submissions of project, assignments or quizzes beyond specified deadline will carry negative marks.

The selection criteria are as follows:

  2. Resume and Essays in Application Form

What is the last date to pay for the registration fees?

Please refer the Offer Letter issued to you.

What are the programme fee inclusions?

  • Curriculum design, training, assignments and evaluation by professor(s) from NUS, Singapore
  • Curriculum design, training and assignments by certified professional(s) from HPE Education
  • ‘Certificate of Completion’ by National University of Singapore
  • ‘Certificate of Completion’ by Hewlett Packard Enterprise Education
  • Transcript by faculty from NUS, Singapore

What is not included in the programme fee?

  • Flights/Visa/Travel Insurance
  • Local Transport in India
  • Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • International SIM Card
  • Local Transport in Singapore for personal visits/sightseeing
  • Entrance Fee to various tourist attractions in Singapore
  • Medical expenses in Singapore
  • Gym, laundry or any other hostel facility charges
  • Stay in Singapore before or after academic internship dates

Programme Completion Documents

Which certificate(s) and transcript(s) will I get after completion of this academic internship?

  • Certificate of Participation from NUS
  • Certificate of Participation from HPE
  • Course Transcript from NUS

What are the requirements to earn all the programme completion documents?

Issuance of all certificates and the LoE will be at Corporate Gurukul’s discretion subject to:

  1. the participant’s performance
  2. completion of assignments and
  3. 90% attendance during the academic internship

When will I get the entitled documents?

The certificates will be awarded during the Valedictory Ceremony at the end of the programme.

The LOE(s) will be posted to your respective institutes 60 days post the programme completion.

Where are the hands-on sessions conducted?

The hands-on sessions are conducted in the Lecture Theatre/Seminar Rooms. You will not visit any laboratories for the same unless requested by the professor(s).

Do I need my own laptop for the academic internship?

Laptop with the specifications mentioned in ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP PREREQUISITES is MANDATORY for all participants.

Do we visit HPE office for the HPE Education part of the curriculum?

No. The entire academic internship is delivered at NUS, Singapore.

Are we divided into groups for projects and assignments?

Yes, you will be assigned teams for project work and assignments. These teams typically consist of 4-5 members.

Can we choose our team members?

No, the team members are assigned by Corporate Gurukul team in consultation with the professor(s). They are created keeping in mind that the prerequisite readiness and a proper mix of students from various institutions. Any request for choice of team member will not be entertained.

How do we submit the projects/assignments?

All assignments and projects will be submitted on the Learning Management System, Acadly.

Are assignments given daily? By when do we submit them?

Assignments will be given daily and need to be submitted as per specified deadline. You may be required to work on the assignments in teams or individually as per the nature of assignment.

How many projects do we do during the programme?

You are required to complete one project during the duration of the programme. This will be done in teams.

When does the project presentation happen?

The project presentations will be conducted post the HPE and NUS sessions.

Are both HPE and NUS sessions graded?

Yes, both HPE and NUS sessions will be graded.

When are the MCQ sessions conducted?

The MCQ Quiz will be conducted every day during the afternoon session.

What if I get delayed in submissions?

Any late submissions of project, assignments or quizzes beyond specified deadline will carry negative marks.
